Yeraltı Camii, meaning "Underground Mosque", stands in the Karaköy part of Istanbul's Beyoğlu district. It takes its name from the fact that its prayer hall and main features lie below ground. Our record places it within Ottoman architecture. According to its Wikidata description, the structure was originally built to oversee the entrance to the Golden Horn and was later converted into a mosque.

The building is also sometimes called Kurşunlu Mahzen (the "Leaded Cellar"). According to tradition, the name refers to the belongings of captured Umayyad warriors having been sealed away here with molten lead.
