Timurtaş Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman-era building in the Karaağaç quarter of central Edirne. It has a square plan and is covered by a single dome resting on an octagonal drum. The builders used roughly dressed stone, rubble stone and brick, and the walls follow an alternating pattern of one course of stone and two courses of brick. The entrance is on the northwest facade. The qibla and side facades each have five windows: two on the lower level, two on the upper level and one in the drum. The minaret stands at the northern corner on a square base built in the same alternating masonry. Today the mosque lies away from residential areas.

History

According to the available sources, the mosque was commissioned in the early 15th century by Subaşı Demirtaş Pasha.

The building stood in a ruined state for many years. The General Directorate of Foundations restored it in 2008 and it was reopened for worship. Because of its distance from settlements, it is now opened on particular occasions, such as religious festivals and the tarawih prayers of Ramadan.

From Wikipedia
