A work of Safavid architecture, it is recorded as dating from 1657 and is counted among the older mosques of the region. It takes its name from Hakim Daud, a Safavid court physician who funded its construction. Besides serving as a place of worship, the building has also functioned as a public facility, a madrasa, a community venue for gatherings and an emergency shelter for travellers. The mosque is inscribed on the Iran National Heritage List.
