The Zagreb Mosque is the house of prayer of the Islamic Centre in Croatia's capital and is described as the largest mosque in the country. The complex is said to cover about 10,000 square metres. Besides the mosque itself, the centre includes the Islamic secondary school named after Dr. Ahmed Smajlović, a library, meeting rooms, an administrative building, a residential building and an economic building, and a cultural centre operates on the premises. The building was completed in 1987 and is listed in the Register of Cultural Goods of Croatia.

Construction of the mosque began in 1981 and was completed in 1987. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the Emir of Sharjah, donated US$2.5 million toward the project, and he visited the Islamic community of Zagreb in 1983. Upon completion, the building was reported to be the largest religious structure built in Yugoslavia after Zagreb Cathedral.
