Мечеть Путра

Putra Mosque (Masjid Putra) is the principal mosque of Putrajaya. It stands on Putra Square beside the artificial Putrajaya Lake, not far from the Malaysian prime minister's residence. Built of pink granite, it is also known as the Red Mosque because of its pink dome. The complex has three main parts: the prayer hall, the courtyard (sahn) and a range of educational and function spaces. It can accommodate about 15,000 worshippers. The 116-metre minaret has five storeys that represent the five pillars of Islam. The largest of the nine domes is 50 metres high and 36 metres across, and rests on twelve columns. Public rooms are also available for conferences, seminars and exhibitions.

The mosque is named after Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia's first prime minister. Construction began in 1997 and was completed in 1999; the German source gives September 1999 as the completion date. The reported construction cost was 250 million Malaysian ringgit.
