The mosque was opened on 22 June 1957 in the Stellingen district of Hamburg, on Wieckstraße, by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.
According to the German-language source, it is the third-oldest mosque in Germany, after the mosque in the so-called Halbmondlager (Half Moon Camp) at Wünsdorf, which held Muslim prisoners of war during the First World War, and the Wilmersdorf Mosque in Berlin. The same source describes it as the first newly built mosque in Germany after the Second World War.
