The Jezzar Pasha Mosque stands in Acre, in northern Israel, within the walls of the old city and overlooking the eastern Mediterranean. It is named after the Ottoman governor Ahmed Jezzar Pasha and is built in the Ottoman architectural tradition. It is also known as the White Mosque and, in Arabic, as Jami' al-Anwar (the Mosque of Lights). Sources describe it as one of the most significant mosques of northern Palestine, noted for its size and Islamic architectural character. Visitors also notice the fine calligraphy of Qur'anic verses running around the upper part of its walls. The mosque serves worshippers from Acre and its surroundings and is a regular stop for tourists.
