Baruthane Mosque stands in the central district of Edirne, in the Babademirtaş neighbourhood, and is also called the İsmail Ağa Mosque. It was built in the mid-15th century by İsmail Ağa, a man known for his charitable works. The mosque sits in a small garden on ground that slopes from south to north. The minaret at its northern corner has a single balcony. In the last congregation area stands a martyr's grave supported by eight wooden posts.

İsmail Ağa, the founder, lived during the reigns of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror and Bayezid II and was known for his philanthropy. The mosque was built in the middle of the 15th century.
It was repaired in 1631, 1911, 1993 and 2005. A comprehensive two-year restoration followed between 2018 and 2020, during which a women's section was added and the garden and ablution facilities were renewed.

There is a martyr's grave in the last congregation place of the mosque, which is seated on eight wooden supports.
The mosque, which was repaired in 1631, 1911, 1993 and 2005, was finally restored with a 2-year work between 2018 and 2020. During this restoration, a women's cloister was added to the mosque. The garden and ablution places of the mosque were renovated.
