The Mosque of the Companions, also known as the Ras Medre Mosque, is an open-air mosque in Massawa, in Eritrea's Northern Red Sea region. It stands on a small island off the Red Sea coast. Its Arabic name is Masjid aṣ-Ṣaḥābah, and in Tigrinya it is called Masǝgid Saḥābā. The mosque is notable for its association with a very early period of Islamic history, as local tradition places its origins in the early seventh century.
