The mosque is believed to have been begun in the reign of Hoshang Shah and completed under Mahmud Khilji in 1454. Inscriptions on the eastern doorway leading to the porch indicate that the building was modelled on the Mosque of Damascus. Today it forms part of the Mandu monuments cared for by the Archaeological Survey of India.
