The mosque was built in the second half of the 17th century, in 1684 according to the record, during the Qing dynasty. Qiqihar was formerly known as Bukui, and the mosque is said to be older than the city itself. A local saying expresses this: first the mosque, then the city of Bukui.
Among the objects kept at the mosque are a Quran manuscript and a copy of the Collected Commentaries on the Four Books dating from the eighth year of the Xianfeng reign (1858). Since 2006 the mosque has been listed among the nationally protected monuments of China.
