Baitur Rauf Mosque stands in Uttara, a suburb in the north of Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Faidabad Transmitter Link Road. It was designed by the Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum and completed in 2012. Rather than relying on conventional symbols such as domes and minarets, the building creates its prayer space through openness and the interplay of light and shadow. It has been recognised for its handling of natural light and for departing from the usual approach to mosque design.
