Tavşanlı Grand Mosque stands in the Tavşanlı district of Kütahya Province, on the Kütahya–Balıkesir road. The present building was constructed in the 19th century, during the reign of Abdulhamid II, on the foundations of an older mosque that had deteriorated over time. A date of 1300 AH (1883 CE) appears beneath a calligraphic panel inside and is taken to mark the construction of the current structure.

The date of the original mosque's construction is not known with certainty. It is thought to have been a work of the Germiyanids and to have been commissioned by Arslan Bey.
After the earlier building fell into disrepair, the present mosque was erected on its foundations during the reign of Abdulhamid II. The date 1300 AH (1883 CE), found under a calligraphic inscription in the interior, is considered the construction date of the new building.
