The Goharshad Mosque is a prominent mosque in Mashhad, in Iran's Razavi Khorasan province, standing directly beside the shrine of Imam Reza. It is an example of Timurid architecture and lies within the shrine complex around the Sahn-e Qods courtyard. Its most striking feature is the dome rising above the main iwan, about 41 metres high, with a gap of 10 metres between its two shells. The exterior is decorated with glazed brick and Kufic inscriptions. Two minarets, each 43 metres above the mosque floor and carrying various decorative motifs, flank the iwan. The mosque's area is given as 2,800 square metres.
