The site's origins lie in the pre-Islamic period. A fire temple was built here in the Sasanian era, and a mosque was later established on the same spot. The mosque was completed in the Seljuk era, and the sanctuary continued to be used in both the Seljuk and Safavid periods.
According to tradition, the building was a large fire temple that was converted into a mosque after Islam spread through the region, from the 3rd century AH onward, and prayers were held there for a long time.
It was added to the Iran National Heritage List on 7 October 2000 and is administered by the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran.
