The mosque was built in 1867 at the expense of Ali Bey Bulgakov, a Muslim teacher at a college in Crimea. It is described as having been raised to mark Emperor Alexander II's survival of an assassination attempt on 25 May 1867.
During the Soviet period the building was used as a warehouse.
