History

This text was compiled from sourced information with AI assistance and has not yet been reviewed by an editor. Please report any errors.

The building was erected in 1296 to commemorate Prince Abu Ibrahim, son of Yahya Yaghmurasen, after his death. This is shown by an inscription on an alabaster slab fixed to the western wall of the prayer hall and by two plaster inscriptions above the mihrab.

The present name is believed to derive from the judge Abu al-Hasan ibn Yakhlaf al-Tanasi, who served under Sultan Abu Said Uthman (1283-1303). The building was later withdrawn from use as a mosque and converted into a museum.
