Kasım Pasha Mosque, also known as Güzelce Kasım Pasha Mosque, stands in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul and belongs to the Ottoman architectural tradition. The present building has a single dome and two minarets, and its dense ornamentation reflects the style of the period in which it was built. The courtyard contains a fountain dated 1737 and an ablution fountain (şadırvan) dated 1870. On the qibla side stand a muvakkithane, the room of the mosque's timekeeper, and a sebil, a public water kiosk. The Great Bath (Büyük Hamam) outside the courtyard is still in use. It has separate sections for women and men and shows the features of classical Ottoman bath architecture.

History

The mosque was first built in 1533–34 by Güzelce Kasım Pasha, who, during the reign of Süleyman I, was tasked with moving the Ottoman fleet from Gallipoli to the Golden Horn. The sources mention Mimar Sinan in connection with its construction. This first building was made of timber and burned down completely in 1722. It was then rebuilt by Feyzullah Efendi.

In the 19th century the mosque suffered another fire and was rebuilt for the last time under Abdülaziz, with a single dome and two minarets. The surviving building is dated to 1891. The courtyard fountain dates from 1737 and the şadırvan from 1870.
