The Haseki Sultan Mosque stands in the Avratpazarı area of Istanbul's Fatih district, between the neighbourhoods of Haseki and Cerrahpaşa. It was commissioned in the name of Hürrem Sultan, the wife of Suleiman the Magnificent, and designed by Mimar Sinan. The mosque and its complex are regarded as Sinan's first work after becoming chief architect. The building has a single minaret. Originally covered by one dome, it was later enlarged into its present transverse rectangular form. Two tile panels that once sat above the windows of the complex's madrasa are now displayed in the Turkish Tiles section of the Topkapı Palace Museum.
History

The mosque was built for Hürrem Sultan and completed between 1538 and 1539, originally as a single-domed building. In 1612 Sedefkâr Mehmet Ağa enlarged it by adding a second dome on the east side, which turned the interior into a transverse rectangle. A covered last-congregation porch was also added at that time. Two tile panels that had remained above the madrasa windows were later transferred to the Topkapı Palace Museum.

Cami, tek minarelidir. Medresenin pencereleri üstünde kalmış olan iki çini pano Topkapı Sarayı müzesinde Türk Çinileri Dairesi'nde sergilenmektedir.
