The Sultan Suriansyah Mosque stands in the village of Kuin Utara in Banjarmasin, in Indonesia's South Kalimantan province. It is regarded as the oldest mosque in South Kalimantan and is named after Suriansyah, the first Banjar king to embrace Islam. The building is a stilt house made of ironwood, topped by a three-tiered roof. The mihrab has its own roof, separate from the main structure. The layered roof follows the model of the Great Mosque of Demak, which in turn drew on the architecture of the Hindu-Buddhist civilizations of Java and Bali.
