According to Evliya Çelebi, the mosque was built in 1396. The same account says it was commissioned by Bai Bugly Khatun, a granddaughter of a Khwarazmian ruler. Sources generally place its construction in the late 14th century.
The building later fell into ruin, and only its remains survive. These are protected under heritage status.
